Shelly Wehunt, LVT
Shelly has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Alford Avenue Veterinary Hospital since May 2001. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician School at Snead State Community College in 2000, but she has 20 years of experience working in the veterinary field. She knew from an early age that working with animals and helping them was her life ambition. She and her husband Ruben live near the Hueytown area and have 3 kids: Tyler, Nate, and Tori. They also have 4 dogs, 1 cat, and a rabbit. In her free time she likes to do crafts, read books, and watch her kids compete in their sports (softball, baseball, football, and wrestling).
Debbi Runyan, LVT
My name is Deborah Runyan, but most just know me as Debbi. I grew up in Chelsea, Alabama, a small town around 30 miles south of Birmingham. I have been working at Alford Avenue Veterinary Hospital since November 2003. I graduated from Vestavia Hills High in 2005. After high school I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to pursue a career in human internal medicine, all the while still working part time at Alford. There was a lack of fulfillment while attending UAB, and after much thought and support I decided to attend veterinary technician school at Jefferson State Community College in 2014. I graduated with and Associate Degree in Applied Science in December 2016. In my free time I enjoy looking for arrowheads, fresh water fishing, and playing disc golf.
Raven McMurry, LVT
Raven has been at Alford Avenue Veterinary Hospital since December of 2013. She graduated from Hueytown High School in May of 2013 and went on to begin her career in the field of veterinary medicine. She attended Jefferson State Community College, where she graduated in December of 2016 with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. She is now well on her way to becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician. When not working or studying she enjoys vacationing to the Gulf Coast and spending time with her two dogs, Lucy-Broke and her precious Pembroke Welsh Corgi Tucker.
Linda Keller, LVT
Linda worked at Nall Animal Hospital with Dr. Friddle and then helped him open Alford Avenue Veterinary Hospital in 1981. She also works with Dr. Allen Riley on the Southern Veterinary Conference which brings veterinarians to Birmingham every August. She received the Layman of the Year Award from the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association in 2000. She attends Church of the Highlands and lives in Pelham, AL. She has one cat that she inherited from her mother when she passed away in 2011.
Veterinary Assistant, Receptionist, and Kennel Attendant
Crystal graduated from Kathleen Senior High School in 2010 and currently attends Jeff State Community College. She has been at Alford Avenue for almost 2 years. She is married and has 2 kids, 3 dogs, 3 cats, 1 hermit crab, and some fish.
Kelli moved to the Birmingham area in 1996 from Minnesota. She had been a server for many years and decided it was time to do something she always wanted to, and that was to work with animals. Alford Avenue Veterinary Hospital had an ad for a receptionist, and the rest is history. She lives in downtown Birmingham now in a renovated car garage with her husband Stephen, his two sons, their grandparents, and 6 cats and 3 dogs, one of which comes to work with her every day. Her name is Jada.
